“In my opinion, this recently refurbished 17th-century inn, complete with an AA Rosette-awarded restaurant, makes it a worthwhile visit. The dog-friendly policy and access to iconic Lake District fells are both appealing, while some service hiccups seem to need addressing. A stay here could certainly be memorable, with some adjustments.”

I stayed in a classic double room. the room was spacious and clean. the food was spot on. It was good quality and tasted great.
we were not told in advance that we would get a voucher to pay for the car park. we were warned that it was likely that the pub would close early due to the impending snow.

a perfect romantic escape

well-appointed decorfresh beddingenglish breakfastbest room
the room was a nice size with well-appointed decor. i loved the quality feel of the carpets, furnishings, and super fresh bedding. the breakfast was the best english breakfast i've had in ages, everything hot and presented beautifully. i would definitely stay again, as this room was probably the best above-pub room i've found.
i wasn't told in advance that i would get a voucher to pay for the car park. i looked on the website beforehand, and it wasn't mentioned anywhere. i would have appreciated knowing sooner so i didn't have to walk back to the car to get a ticket.

The room was clean, and it had everything i needed (including tea and coffee facilities). The staff were cheerful and helpful. They even printed off a walking map for us one morning. Breakfast was amazing. I had dinner in the restaurant one evening and would highly recommend it.
i didn't want to walk back to the car park for the ticket as i was eager to relax. i found that there was no milk, so i couldn't have any tea or coffee, and there was no one to ask for any. The room i was in also had a loud noise from what i believe was a kitchen fan until 9pm.
