Rooms Above Smokehouse
Rocksalt's four compact rooms are housed above the restored Smokehouse, in the heart of a working harbour. Valentine is a top-floor room with sea views, a Juliette balcony, and a vaulted ceiling. Kittens accommodates up to three guests. Each room features heating, air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Bare red-brick walls and antique beds feature in some rooms, alongside Egyptian cotton bedding and an iPod dock. Storage is limited to a few hangers on the wall. Every en suite bathroom has a shower, free toiletries, and a hairdryer.
Harbourfront Dining
Rocksalt features onsite restaurants with menus that include quality meat and fish that is cured and smoked by Rocksalt. The informal Smokehouse serves fish & chips. Hunks of bread, served with beef dripping, rich butter and home-roasted salt, and nuggets of treacly fudge bookend meals. Dover sole is served with heritage carrots. A good 'small fry' restaurant menu is available.
Leisure and Activities
Guests can access the seafront via the Grade II listed Leas Lift. Activities include visits to Folkestone Harbour and Hythe Pool. Those looking for area attractions can visit Leas Lift and Elham Valley Railway Museum. Folkestone's long pebble beach runs alongside the Lower Leas Coastal Park.
Location and Transport
Rocksalt appears like a clam lying sideways on the harbor, its back to the wharves and its glass front opening to the water. It's a 1.45-hour drive from London or to Folkestone Central. London City is 100 km away. Rocksalt Rooms is a 20-minute stroll from Folkestone Central. Landmarks nearby include the World War One Memorial Arch (0.5 km), The Leas Bandstand (0.5 km), and The Folkestone Mermaid Cornelia Parker (0.3 km).
