the spa seemed dated.. the ladies' loos also lacked cleanliness. the room i occupied had a strong smell. i observed stains on the cushions and runner. a deep clean is necessary as the carpets felt dusty, and the bath had chips.

Satisfactory stay overall

sympathetic conversioninterior decorfirst class servicewarm roommusty roomexhaust fumes
The hotel showcased a sympathetic conversion of a 17th-century manor house into a modern hotel. The interior decor had a tasteful style. The dinner was first class with understated service. It.
The room felt warm and musty, unfortunately. Exhaust fumes entered the room when I opened the window, which faces the road. It was not ideal, to say the least.

Lovely Historic Stay

friendly staffspa treatmentsroad location
The staff was super friendly. The spa treatments were fantastic, and I enjoyed relaxing by the pool. I had dinner and lunch one day and really enjoyed the food. The breakfast was also fantastic, it was much appreciated.
My room was very warm and stuffy. Opening the window let exhaust fumes into the room because of its location near the road.
Location

The burns night party was amazing!!! the haggis piping and burns poems were just perfect. the food and drink were fantastic. Nichola and the team did a great job.
The first impression was a bit spooky. The reception area seemed dark. cobwebs filled the large window near the stairs. The corridor felt run down.

underwhelming stay

historic buildingunscenic viewstock issues
the building itself is lovely and historic.
the room was not what i expected based on the photos i saw. it seemed like a basic room and was overlooking a car park with a large container, certainly not scenic. the staff also seemed to have stock issues, as they ran out of pinot grigio and mint tea when i tried to order them.

I had a lovely room. A Manor Spacious Double offered ample space and comfort. Breakfast was plentiful and promptly delivered.
The staff, mostly younger individuals, sometimes seemed to ignore guests at the reception.
