The small village of Askrigg offers many circular walks, some of which pass the local waterfalls at Mill Gill and Whitfield Force. The Forbidden Corner is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created in a four-acre garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. A day trip to York or the North York Moors National Park and Yorkshires Heritage Coast is possible.
Location and transport
Middle House is 60 km from Durham Tees Valley. From Askrigg you can travel either up or down Wensleydale. Hawes is known for its biggest export, Wensleydale Cheese. The Wensleydale Creamery has a visitors center and restaurant. Leyburn is another market town, with many small shops and attractions. At the bottom of the Main Street in Askrigg, next to the historic village Church, is 'Skeldale House', the sturdy stone-built building used in the famous BBC television series of 'All Creatures Great and Small'.

The White Rose dates back to the 19th century and is situated in what can be argued as the very heart of what is still known as 'Herriot Country'. The property offers breakfast on the day of departure. Guests can enjoy a selection of real ales, wines and spirits as well as soft drinks, teas and coffees. The hotel welcomes well behaved dogs and has designated pet friendly rooms. Middle House offers gluten-free options on the menu.
