The Red Lion Hotel features 17 rooms, each providing a sea view. The 11 rooms in the main inn include Toile de Jouy quilts, padded headboards, wall-mounted oars, and Lloyd Loom chairs. Rooms offer amenities such as free toiletries, flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and heating. Some rooms provide two beds. Free entrance to Clovelly Village and Gardens and free use of the landrover service are included.
Local dining
The Harbour Restaurant sources food locally, including Clovelly lobsters. The restaurant also offers vegetarian and vegan options. The Harbour Restaurant provides fresh lobster, crab, sea bass, herring and other fish from the bay in season. The restaurant uses seasonal produce from Clovelly Court Gardens and local meat. Gardens supply salad and vegetables in season, with Clovelly apple juice served at breakfast. A takeaway menu is available from the Harbour Bar between 12-2:30pm and 6pm - 8pm. The bar downstairs serves pub grub, such as meatballs and scampi in a convivial setting. The property offers Moroccan style with slow braised 'pulled' shoulder dumplings, a grilled cutlet, and leg steak served with chef's fragrant vegetable couscous. The Red Lion also has festive Sunday lunch running until December 18th.
Things to do
Guests can take a boat trip around the bay, a booked chartered fishing trip, or voyage to Lundy Island. Clovelly Gig Regatta celebrates Devon's best teams in a day of competition. Guests can check out the shops, galleries, and museums or try their hand at arts & crafts workshops. They can stroll along the cliffs and beaches or through the village. The Snug Bar is where you can mix with the locals, listening and sharing their stories. You can also visit Fisherman's Cottage, which contains information and old photographs about Clovelly's fishing heritage. A ' Picarooner' fishing boat, unique to Clovelly, is suspended from the ceiling.
Location and access
The Red Lion Hotel is on the quay alongside Clovelly's ancient harbor in North Devon, 90 km from Newquay. Clovelly is just off the A39, 10 miles west of Bideford. Exit the M5 at Junction 27. The nearest train station is Barnstaple. Buses run from Barnstaple and Bideford to Clovelly. Nearby landmarks include Hartland Point Lighthouse (5.5 km), Buck's Mills & Peppercombe Castle (3.5 km), and The Milky Way Adventure Park (2 km).
