Rooms and Igloos

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort features log chalets for one to ten people, built with kelo pines in a rugged style. Chalets include a fireplace and a sauna. Glass Igloos allow viewing of the Northern Lights. Two-person igloos include a toilet, with saunas and showers in separate buildings. Four-person igloos have a toilet and shower. Newly built Kelo-Glass Igloos combine log chalets with glass igloos, accommodate up to six guests, and include a private sauna, fireplace, kitchenette, and a bedroom with a glass roof. A 60 m2 kelo wood log chalet includes a bathroom with a bathtub and sauna, and an outdoor Jacuzzi. A traditional house with a sauna accommodates two people. Sivakka Chalet accommodates up to ten people, with a living room, three bedrooms, a kitchen, a fireplace room, and a sauna. Chalets on the banks of the golden river feature a sauna and a kick sled.

Lappish Cuisine

Kakslauttanen features two restaurants with à la carte menus offering local Lappish cuisine. A buffet breakfast of fresh breads, fruit, porridge, fish, and cereals is served at the glass igloo bar in the West Village Aurora restaurant, similar to the log restaurant in the East Village.

Activities and Excursions

The resort offers activities such as gold panning and reindeer and husky sled rides. In winter, husky farms provide sledding through the wilderness. Reindeer safaris connect guests with Sami culture. Snowmobile safaris explore the snowy forest. Other winter activities include ice karting and winter horseback riding. Icebreaker cruises out of Kemi are available. In summer, activities include hiking in Urho Kekkonen National Park and Lemmenjoki National Park, and ATV safaris. Guests can pick berries and mushrooms in the forests. A day trip to Inari includes a visit to a reindeer farm, the Siida Museum, and a cruise on Lake Inari. Kakslauttanen hosts an Arctic Art Week in August.

Location and Access

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is 40 km from Ivalo. The resort has two sites on either side of the main Lapland highway to the North Cape. The location is near the Kiilopää Fell area, bordering Urho Kekkonen National Park. Lemmenjoki National Park is nearby. The closest airport is Ivalo, a 30-minute shuttle bus ride away.

Onsite Services

Kakslauttanen provides transport from and to Ivalo Airport. A glass-roof bus is available for group rental. Rental apparel, skis, snowshoes, sleds, and bicycles are available. There are gift shops in the eastern and western villages. The biggest smoke sauna provides a setting for meetings. The resort has an Art Gallery and Planetarium. Complimentary internet is available in accommodations, reception, and restaurant areas.
