Review summary

Based on recent reviews

The Chester Grosvenor enjoys an unbeatable location in the city centre, right next to the city walls, making it easy to explore attractions like the cathedral and Roman amphitheatre on foot. Guests consistently praise the spacious and well-equipped rooms, and some have particularly appreciated the fresh milk in the mini-bar. While most find the experience luxurious and worth the price, a few guests have occasionally noted minor issues such as uneven floors in some suites. Breakfast is generally considered excellent, with plenty of options to choose from, and cocktails in the bar are a popular evening treat, rounding out a pleasant stay.

Reasonable stay in city center

central location polite staff tasteful decor ripped wallpaper broken lock dirty sealant

The hotel location is central. The staff members were courteous. My room had tasteful decor. The continental breakfast included fresh fruit juice and pastries.

The room's wallpaper had rips. A window lock wasn't working. I noticed the bathroom had dirty sealant.

Underwhelming Experience , Needs Improvement

unwelcoming staff incorrect key setup

The front desk staff were not cute , they did not smile or greet guests. My room keys stopped working on two consecutive days. I learned they had been set up incorrectly during check-in. I had to request milk , tea bags , and water be replenished , as this was not done during regular room service.

ripped wallpaper faded sealant

The yellow paintwork in room 238 WAS appalling and the decor felt VERY dated. Wallpaper was ripped in one area and the window lock was broken. Also there WAS no socket on one side of the bed, just an extension lead! The bathroom had faded bath sealant. It looked dirty. I found these issues disappointing for a hotel of this supposed caliber.

The hotel's location provided immediate access to historical sites. Staff members offered warm welcomes, promptly managing luggage. I found the room service available at all hours very convenient. The hotel offered easy access to a multi-story car park.

During afternoon tea, the seating arrangement wasn't ideal for dining. Low chairs made it a bit uncomfortable to reach the table.
