“The Georgian architecture suggests a hotel steeped in Edinburgh's history, but it's the location, mere steps from Princes Street, that strikes me as the true advantage. Rooms are spacious, especially the bathrooms, and the staff seems remarkably dedicated, going above and beyond to accommodate guests' needs, suggesting a genuinely comfortable stay.”

Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
New Town Hotel is often praised for its convenient location, being within easy reach of both Waverley train station and Princes Street. Guests appreciate the modern, clean bathrooms, sometimes equipped with premium toiletries or even an electric toothbrush charger. The rooms are generally considered spacious, though some guests have noted the absence of a lift to the upper floors. A full Scottish breakfast is a popular option, with freshly cooked elements like the tasty brioche breakfast roll.

missing liftpoor variety
I stayed on the third floor. The hotel does not have a lift. This was a problem. The breakfast was also quite poor. There was very little variety, especially considering the price. I EXPECTED more.

Comfortable Stay, Convenient Location

central locationquiet roomhelpful staffexpensive parking
The location was advantageous. It was a short walk to the main attractions. The room was also nice and quiet. It faced the rear of the building. I found the staff quite helpful when I needed assistance with my luggage.
One thing to note is the on-street parking nearby has a maximum stay limit. I wasn't aware, and it turned out to be a bit expensive for a short period.
Dining

The breakfast offered a tasty cooked Scottish option. The selection included some excellent choices. The food was served fresh and warm each morning. It was a great start to the day.

Decent stay, some minor issues

helpful staffcozy bedexpensive parkinghidden charge
I appreciated the location. It made it easy to get to attractions. Staff members were friendly and helpful. They answered my questions quickly. The bed was very comfortable and cozy. I really liked the pillows!
The on street parking had a 4-hour max stay. It also cost £24 for those 4 hours. The hotel asked for a £100 charge in case of damage. I thought the parking situation and charge were a problem.
