The Ness is 35 km from Exeter International and offers nine bedrooms. This 19th-century building has nautical memorabilia and stories of a smuggling past. Three first-floor rooms are in the main house, including the Premier, which has a freestanding copper bathtub. You also get a Digital Smart TV, a Bluetooth radio with iPod and iPad connections, and a decent shower over a fitted tub. Room amenities include tea/coffee-making facilities, a desk, linen, towels, and a hairdryer.
Food and Drink Options
The Ness offers award-winning Badger cask ales and lagers. The menu features fresh, seasonal dishes cooked by a team of chefs using ingredients from regional food partners. Typical dishes include pints of shell-on prawns, grilled sardines with new potatoes and roast tomato sauce or a whole plaice with caper butter and rocket. You'll find Pan Roast Salmon in a lightly spiced velouté sauce and Summer Squash Salad. It's House Lager Battered Fish & Chips or The H & W Burger. Pizza and garlic bread is served ' thin crust ' cut in a 10 inch box made from recycled cardboard. Usual favorites like Steak & Tangle Foot Pie, Forum Lager Battered Fish & Chips and the Chargrilled Double Cheese Burger are also available. Summer Sippers drinks include sunshine spritzers, summer specials and alcohol-free options. Bio plastic condiment pots & drink ware are used.
Things to do
There's a lot to do in Shaldon. Visit the local wildlife trust's boutique zoo, botanical gardens, Georgian houses on a village green, the Ode Café and a so-called Smugglers Tunnel which cuts through a headland to reach the red sands of Ness beach. The Ness is the perfect base for walking and exploring South Devon. The Church of St Peter, Teign Heritage -Teignmouth & Shaldon Museum, RSPB Labrador Bay Nature Reserve, The Reuben Lenkiewicz Art Gallery, Words and pictures gallery, Homeyards Botanical Gardens, and Shaldon Castle are nearby.
Location and Access
The Ness is a Grade II listed Inn located on the South West Coast Path in Shaldon, with views over the Teign Estuary. It combines a busy, buzzy gastro pub, cask ale and cocktails. Ness Cove is close by. The Ness House sits on the South West Coast Path, a short walk from the beach. From the train station, take a cab or the Teignmouth - Shaldon passenger ferry. There is a large long-stay public car park up the road.
Additional Perks
The building is ornate and dates back to the 19th-century. Dog are allowed in the pub. There's a terrace with a waterside view. Cutlery & crockery has returned for guests eating & drinking in inside stable shelter area. Newly installed sliding doors are slightly open for ventilation.
