Room 1 is a quiet room overlooking Alston old town with a king-size bed and roll-top bath. Room 2, a family room, overlooks the gardens and includes a double bed and a single bed with a corner shower. Room 3, a corner suite, offers mood lighting, a king-size bed, a single bed, a walk-in shower, and a free-standing bath. Room 4, a family-friendly room, has a king-size bed, a single bed (with the option to add another single bed), and a corner shower. Room 5 features a king-size bed, two single beds, and a shower room with views of Alston Fells. Room 6 includes a king-size bed, a single bed, and a roll-top bath with views of Alston Fells. Room 7, a standard twin room on the third floor, has two single beds and a shower room, and may not be suitable for anyone over 5.5 feet tall due to the low roof. Rooms 8 and 9 have king size beds, en-suite shower rooms, and views of Alston Fells.
Hearty meals & pizzas
The hotel's pub restaurant has a log fire and serves British food, accompanied by a wine list, Real Ales, and traditional beers. The kitchen, run by chef/owner Mike Allchorne, creates seasonal dishes using local ingredients from over 20 local food producers. The menu includes steaks, fish, and vegetarian options, plus a pizza and pasta menu. Stone-baked pizzas (12") are available with a tomato or BBQ base, including two toppings: spicy beef, pepperoni, BBQ chicken, mushrooms, prosciutto ham, salami, olives, onions, and chili, or just a margarita. Extra toppings are available at an additional cost. The cafe serves lighter bites, homemade cakes, and scones with views of the fells and gardens. Cumbria Full Breakfast includes bacon, pork sausage, grilled fresh tomato, baked beans, mushrooms and fried bread. Eggs can be fried, poached or scrambled. Other breakfast options include smoked salmon, breakfast brioche, grilled Halloumi, Homemade Pancakes, creamy garlic mushrooms, two poached eggs on toast, or toast with homemade preserves, Lakeland butter or Flora. Yorkshire tea and continental ground coffee are served with fruit and herbal teas available.
Relaxation and Activities
Guests can relax in spacious bar and café areas with fell views and well-tended gardens with secluded areas. For steam enthusiasts, the South Tyne Valley Railway is a short walk away. The railway travels to Kirkhaugh and Lintley Halt using vintage steam or diesel trains through the North Pennines Area of Natural Beauty. The Alston Fells are part of the North Pennines Area of Natural Beauty, ideal for walking and cycling. Cyclists have access to a drying room and secure bike storage. Bike hire is available through North Pennine Bikes, including electric bikes. Other activities include Adventure Vertical (climbing) and Go Cave (caving).
Location and Access
Alston House Hotel is in Alston, Cumbria, 40 km from Carlisle Lake District, 35 minutes from Penrith, 50 minutes from Carlisle, and one hour from Newcastle. It is located on the A686, 20 miles east of M6, junction 40. The hotel is on the right as you enter Alston with parking available in the car park or directly outside. Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a short drive away. The coast-to-coast cycling route passes the front of the hotel. The Pennine Way is 20 yards from the hotel. Gossipgate to Blagill is a 3-mile walk to explore the region's industrial archaeology.

Children aged 2-16 are charged per night; infants under 2 stay free. Takeaway menu is available from 4.30pm to 7.30pm, and preordering is recommended.
