Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
Takayama Ouan is known for its rooftop onsen, which features both indoor and outdoor options, along with private alternatives, and offers astonishing views of the town. Many guests appreciate the complimentary ramen served in the evenings, as well as the treats available after using the onsen. While some have noted that the blinds don't block out light completely, the hotel's proximity to Takayama Station, shops, and restaurants makes it a convenient choice for exploring the area, and the spacious rooms with tatami floors offer a traditional Japanese experience.

the hotel provides various services for their guests. there was a late night ramen service. onsen, along with a tea and coffee bar. the breakfast included a variety of options to choose from also. the room shower was really good.
the acoustics in my room were not good. i could hear trains and cars as if they were right outside. i heard plumbing from neighbouring rooms like showers and toilets also. the blinds do not block out light well and they have not invested in curtains.

wonderful stay!

central locationfine viewprivate onsenunfriendly staff
I loved the central location. it was a short walk to the train station and the nohi bus station. i had a top-floor room, only one level below the onsen. It had a fine view. the outdoor private onsen was free and operated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The reception staff was not friendly at all! during checkout, i received harsh treatment from the younger staff. This experience ruined the whole trip!

onsen taxloud ac
I must say, the 'onsen tax' of 150 yen per person per night seemed like a sneaky way to squeeze more money out of guests. it's not a huge amount, but it's the principle of the thing. the onsen itself was nothing special. I waited ages for a turn at the private ones, only to find them overcrowded and lacking any real 'onsen' vibe. it's basically a warm bath with a view, not exactly the serene experience i was hoping for. loud wind flow came from the ac at night.
