Port Askaig Hotel provides 13 double/twin/family rooms and 1 single room, all with en-suite facilities. Annex guests share a small TV lounge. Room options include Islay (configurable with 3 single beds or a double and a single, with a shower room), Mull (a double and single bed with bath and shower), Colonsay (a double and single bed with bath and shower and harbour views), and Jura (configurable with 3 or 4 single beds or a double and 1 or 2 singles, a partial sea view, and a private terraced entrance overlooking the garden). Each room includes a hairdryer, towels, hospitality tray, extra blankets, shampoo, and soap. Some units have sea views. Select rooms offer a seating area, wardrobe, and electric kettle.
Dining at the Inn
The Starboard Bistro offers Bistro style dining with full meal service in the bars, plus hot snacks outside main meal times. A full Scottish selection is served daily in the Starboard Bistro between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM. The seasonal menu includes light snacks and lobster lunches. Snacks are available all day. The 'Port' Bar, the oldest licensed premises on Islay, features Islay Malts and a display of old and rare bottles. The Snug Bar is suited for pre-dinner drinks. Food service is available in the Bistro, bars, and harborside beer garden (maximum 30 covers in the Bistro).
Activities and Amenities
Guests can engage in water adventures like fishing. Fly fishing with John Mc Callum is available for all skill levels. Wildlife spotting, sea fishing, and scenic boat tours are available with experienced skippers. The hotel has a garden, shared lounge. Quiz nights and live music are hosted in the bar. Location and Access
Port Askaig Hotel is on the shores of the Sound of Islay, overlooking the pier where daily car ferries arrive from the Scottish mainland. ALL sailings come to Port Askaig due to repair works at Port Ellen. The hotel offers access to Jura, Colonsay, and the mainland. The distillery villages of Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain are accessible via two side roads from Port Askaig. Glenegedale is 30 km from Port Askaig Hotel. Nearby landmarks include Ardnahoe Distillery (3 km), Caol Ila Distillery (0.5 km), and Finlaggan Castle (4.5 km).
Hotel Services
Rooms are on the first floor with access from the rear car park. Scottish Citylink operates a connecting bus service (number 926) from Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow to Kennacraig. Fishing charges include the use of a boat. The hotel employs local Islay staff who speak Gaelic. Special rates apply for stays of 3+ nights and for weekend breaks during off-season months. Ironing facilities are available.
