Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
The Knaresborough Inn is often praised for its convenient location, placing guests within easy reach of the town center, the river, and key attractions like Mother Shipton's Cave. Guests appreciate the building's charming aesthetic, with a cosy bar and dining area that are tastefully decorated, especially during Christmas. Rooms are generally considered a good size and clean, and come equipped with tea, coffee, and biscuits; however, some guests in the annexe have noted that keeping the bedroom door closed helps retain heat due to slight gaps in the front door. The Inn's proximity to the train station, only about six minutes away, is another definite plus, alongside the availability of on-site parking.

Okay stay overall

festive ambience helpful staff lovely setting burnt beef bad timing order mistake
The setting of this place is lovely I found. I stayed here after refurbishment and it looks great. The Christmas ambience was festive and cute I thought. Staff was friendly and helpful to me.
Lunch started well but my order was messed up I discovered. There were four of us and two ordered only soup. The soups were delivered 15 to 20 minutes later, after the first couple had eaten so that was bad timing. The beef sandwiches could have been renamed 'burnt beef sandwiches' I think.

nearby attractions romantic river useful hairdryer
The location was a DREAM for exploring nearby attractions. I easily walked to the river. It was so romantic. My room included a nice work desk AND a hairdryer. It suited my needs PERFECTLY.
The room lacked a bit of sound insulation though the building is quite old.

Excellent Stay

short walk clean rooms quality ingredients
The train station was a short walk, approximately five minutes. Rooms were kept clean. That was important. The breakfast buffet provided ingredients of good quality.. a pleasing discovery.
The menu focused on typical pub dishes, yet the variety available was less than at some other establishments. It did not fully meet my expectations.
Rooms
8/10
The room had good decor, but its dimensions were quite small. The bathroom, though of good size, featured some minor imperfections, such as a small black mark on the duvet.
Dining
9/10
Breakfast offered a buffet with hot and cold options. The staff cleared tables quickly, maintaining cleanliness. I noticed some items unavailable from the bar menu, including a specific spirit needed for a cocktail.

Okay experience at the inn

clean room comfortable bed poor design inconvenient socket
The room was very clean. I also found that the bed was quite comfortable. The bar and restaurant felt friendly, and the food seemed good. Plenty of tea and coffee were available in the room.
The design of the room seemed poorly planned. I could not close the curtains if I wanted to use the lamp or the kettle. The mirror was far from any plug sockets, so using it to dry hair was impossible.

mixed experience at this inn

burnt food poor customer service
the room was left clean each day, which met my basic expectations.
the evening meal proved disappointing. the 'toad in the hole' was burnt. the bar staff's handling of the drinks voucher situation was poor. i would have expected them to honor the voucher as presented, but they did not.

Acceptable stay at the hotel

easy parking convenient location thoughtful effort maintained details difficult access second staircase inconsistent service varied buffet
The hotel is conveniently located near town. This made it easy to explore the area. Free parking was available, a definite plus. Everything in the hotel looked to be well kept. It felt as if they had made an effort with the details.
Access to my room involved some challenges with my luggage. There were two flights of stairs. Only one staircase had a bannister rail. The second staircase led to a door. I had to swipe my key, which covered the top step and made it difficult while holding a case. Breakfast service seemed inconsistent. The quality of the buffet varied.
