Ballymaloe House: Stay
Ballymaloe House Hotel, located in East Cork, is a family-owned country house hotel with an award-winning restaurant. It offers 32 bedrooms, each with a distinct character, and provides King beds, complimentary Wi-Fi, a shower, a hairdryer, and a desk. Unique characteristics include low window seats and original stone walls. Bathrobes and slippers are provided. All rooms include a self-controlled heating or cooling system. A map helps navigate the 300-acre estate. The absence of tea- and coffee-making facilities and the presence of pretty country house wallpapers and painted wardrobes create a calm environment.
Farm-to-fork Dining
The hotel provides a farm-to-fork dining experience, emphasizing fresh, home-grown produce. All eggs used in the kitchen are free-range from hens reared on the farm. Additional fruits and vegetables come from nearby Ballymaloe Cookery School gardens and Kilbrack Organic Farm. A pre-dinner Garden to Glass cocktail is served, followed by a farm-to-fork dinner menu. Breakfast includes freshly baked bread, butter and jams from the farm. A buffet of local ingredients and hot breakfast options are also available. Light lunch is served in the Conservatory, Monday to Saturday, 12:30 to 14:00. The 5-course dinner menu is served Monday to Saturday, 18:30 to 21:00. On Sundays, a 4-course dinner is served from 18:30 to 21:00.
Leisure and Grounds
Guests can explore the grounds, play croquet on the front lawn, or swim in the heated, outdoor swimming pool. A classic game of croquet can be enjoyed on the lawn at the front of the house. Tobias will show examples of sensitive initiatives such as wilding plantations, pollinator planting, owl breeding boxes, and beehives. Ballymaloe Grainstore hosts regular art exhibitions. A tour of the walled garden with the Head Gardener is available. Guided tours of the castle, house, Allen family history, wines, gardens, and sustainable practices are also offered. Guests can experience a mix of luxurious accommodation, farm-to-fork dining, and outdoor activities.
Location and Transport
Ballymaloe House Hotel is 40 km from Cork. It is a 40-minute drive from Cork city or 15 minutes from Midleton train station and the N25 road. East Cork is a region with a coastline, towns, history, and attractions. Bus Eireann provides a regular Air Coach bus service from Cork Airport to Cork's Parnell Place Bus Station.
Services and extras
Vouchers can be redeemed for dining in restaurants at any Blue Book Hotels across Ireland. Ballymaloe Grainstore, a 17th-century farmyard building, is used for musical, theatrical, film, or art events. The yellow drawing room is the place to relax by the open fire. Head Groundskeeper Tobias Pedersen conducts tours showing sustainable land management initiatives. Voya bathroom amenities are included. A gift shop and café are located at the rear of the gift shop.
