Acceptable Stay, Though Issues Persisted

poor breakfast presentation bird droppings
The bar area offered some charm and provided an acceptable space to relax after a long day.
The breakfast presentation needs improvement. Cereal boxes sat on the table without much care. I also saw swallows' nests built on the windows with bird droppings streaming down. The cleanliness was not great.

I spent three nights here. The building is fine. Staff dropped us off at Hadrian's Wall for an explore. Meals in all the dining areas were enjoyable. I also relaxed with a drink in the bar.
The sourdough bread was somewhat overpriced.

a gem in the countryside

charming village original features lovely gardens excellent fireplace
the hotel is located in a charming village, full of history and character. i found many original features maintained throughout the hotel. the gardens were lovely, and i enjoyed stargazing by the fire pit each evening. the restaurant houses what i believe is one of the oldest and largest fireplaces i have ever seen (it was quite excellent!).
the breakfast was okay, but the pastries were gone quickly, it was not as good as i expected after an enjoyable dinner.
Rooms

my beautiful double room included binoculars for stargazing. i also found a hot water bottle, homemade fudge, and biscuits, very pleasant. the bed was very comfortable with fluffy pillows.

the hotel sits amidst beautiful moors in a small village. the atmosphere is enchanting, and the hotel offers easy access to the nearby abbey. the rear garden is well maintained and adds to the scenery.
