Te Waonui Forest Retreat features guest rooms with a private balcony displaying forest views, luxury bedding, climate control, TV, mini fridge, tea and coffee facilities, and complimentary WiFi. Bathrooms include heated floors, mirror demisters, bathrobes, hairdryers, and toiletries. Deluxe King rooms offer a super king bed with forest views. Deluxe Twin Queen rooms come with two queen beds. Deluxe Twin Accessible rooms, located on the ground floor, include a super king bed plus one single bed and an accessible bathroom.
Dining at Te Waonui
The Canopy Restaurant offers local cuisine and a five-course degustation dinner. The Frond Bar features cocktails and New Zealand wines. The 1st course includes Soup du Jour, Kaikōura Crayfish Ravioli, Silver Fern Beef Tartare, Canterbury Venison Carpaccio, and Wild Rice Salad. The 3rd course features Merino Rack of Lamb, Silver Fern Beef Fillet, Ora King Salmon, Canterbury Confit Duck Leg, and Forest Mushroom Burnt Risotto. For the 5th course, guests can enjoy Otago Bush Honey Panna Cotta, Crème Caramel Flan, Chef's Chocolate Creation, and New Zealand Cheese. A kids' dinner menu is also available.
Leisure and Entertainment
Guests can explore local attractions, including horse trekking, rafting, and quad bike tours. Other activities include a half-day guided walk on Franz Josef Glacier, kayaking, and glow worm viewing. A massage service is available by appointment, and guests have access to the Glacier Hot Pools. The Wildlife Centre, in partnership with the Department of Conservation, is home to the Rowi Kiwi breeding program.
