Spotlessly Clean and Recently Refurbished Room

My room was clean. It was to have just been refurbished. The lady on reception was very friendly. She even called at 7:30 to ask when I wanted breakfast served in my room. It was a pleasant surprise.
Entering the hotel. It wasn't quite up to the standard of the room.

A lovely experience, really

friendly staff delicious breakfast
I loved that they offered a friendly service, with staff happy to find an alternative room when I mentioned my knee injury! There was tea and coffee right in the room, a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was delicious, and I chose the full English buffet, perfect after a good night's sleep.
I noticed a strange smell throughout the building, a persistent unpleasant odor. The fire alarm disrupted my rest after a tiring day, really jarring. This needs addressing to ensure a better experience for all guests.
Location
9/10
The hotel's location proved convenient for accessing the town centre, offering ease of exploration and access to various amenities, shops, and local attractions for people eager to see the sights. The location was perfect!
Rooms

The room impressed me with its size and comfort, and the beds felt spacious and inviting, ensuring a restful night. I found the ensuite bathroom surprisingly large and modern, contributing to an enhanced and comfortable stay. It was good.
Facilities

I was happy the facilities included tea and coffee in the room, a lovely touch that allowed for relaxation after a busy day. The on-site car parking was great for contractors with vans, especially using the entrance off the side street.
Service

I was received with excellent service, especially from Sara at reception. She was so kind and helpful. The staff were accommodating regarding a situation I had, providing assistance beyond expectations.

underground area limited options
I must say, my basement room lacked natural light. The window faced an underground area. I anticipated a dining room for breakfast. Instead, I received a phone call at 7:15 AM requesting my order. There were no instructions in the room. Plus, late afternoon on Sunday, I expected snack dispensers. I had to trek into town. Options were limited at that hour!!!
