Vatnahalsen Hoyfjellshotell is in Myrdal, Norway, where the fjords meet the mountains. The hotel sits 820 meters above sea level at the top of the Flåm valley. It is near the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord. The hotel is near hiking in Skarvheimen and the wildest Zipline in the Nordic countries. Vatnahalsen is 90 km from Sogndal.
Train Access Only
The hotel can be accessed by train only. From Oslo or Bergen, take the Bergen Railway to Myrdal Station. Transfer to the Flåm Railway for one stop to Vatnahalsen Station, 50 meters from the hotel. Alternatively, drive to Flåm and take the Flåm Railway to the hotel. The Flåm Railway passes through 20 tunnels, with 18 built by hand.
Activities
Vatnahalsen is a starting point for exploring the area. Rallarvegen extends from Haugastøl to Flåm. Ski touring and freeriding start right outside the door. Fjordsafari tours of the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord are available. You can cycle the Rallarvegen.

Nearby landmarks include Kjosfossen and Rjoandefossen, both 1.5 km away, and Tarven, 4.5 km away. The Flåm Railway is 2.5 km away. From the hotel, you can see rivers cutting through gorges and waterfalls. You can also find traditional plants and goats grazing at the foot of steep mountainsides. Vatnahalsen is 1.5 km from Myrdal, 14 km from Hallingskeid, and 35 km from Finse.
Hotel History
Vatnahalsen was popular because of the Bergen Railway. Guest books from the 1930s show that skiers from Norway, Britain, Germany, and Holland stayed at the hotel. The hotel accommodates 140 guests. Summer traffic increased with biking along the old road next to the Bergen Railway. The hotel burned down on June 23 during the war, when German soldiers occupied the hotel.
