Dining at UNION
UNION, the 65-seat restaurant, is headed by Head Chef Christian Bassett. UNION sources ingredients from local farmers and fisherman. Turndown includes local Dean's chocolate. The lobby bar, Inkwell, features hand crafted cocktails and an iconic letterpress art wall. Inkwell starts each day with complimentary coffee and a selection of muffins and pastries for purchase. Union serves breakfast through dinner. The Market Table features natural light, a custom-built walnut table, and mid-century modern seating for semi-private dining.
Leisure and Culture
The hotel features an Art Gallery, open to the public, with works by local Maine artists. The gallery includes a two-story installation of vintage typewriters called the SWARM. A small fitness center contains an iron scale once used for weighing rolls of newsprint. Guests can also power their next workout with state-of-the-art machines, including two Peloton Cycling Bikes. Tactile art from Kate Cheney is on display. The hotel also has lovingly tended rooftop hives that produce uber-local honey.

“The Press Hotel smartly leverages its location in Portland's Old Port district. The building's history as a newspaper office is now a stylish design concept, though some may find the theme outweighs comfort. The restaurant attempts ambition with locally sourced ingredients; that's a plus.”
