Jamala Wildlife Lodge, 9 km from Canberra, features suites within the National Zoo & Aquarium. Accommodations include uShaka Lodge rooms, Giraffe Treehouses, and Jungle Bungalows. uShaka Lodge offers rooms with a shark tank and Colobus monkeys. Giraffe Treehouses provide views of giraffes, deer, and alpacas. Jungle Bungalows have glass walls adjoining lion, tiger, cheetah, or sun bear habitats. The Reef Room features a 5-meter-deep ocean aquarium, and the Wild Encounter Room offers a cheetah encounter. The Shark Grand Suite includes a shark feeding experience and hyena meeting. The Lemur Rooms offer views of lemurs and Molonglo River or the lion enclosures. The Meerkat Suite has two bedrooms near the meerkat family. Rooms include climate control, wireless internet, music system with MP3 input, Foxtel television, and African furniture.
African-inspired Dining
Jamala Wildlife Lodge provides an African-influenced dining experience. Guests can enjoy a four-course dinner, featuring wine and Moet champagne. The menu includes wild mushroom risotto, roasted rack of lamb, and chocolate sphere with berries. High tea/light lunch is served in uShaka Lodge, and a la carte breakfast is available in the Rainforest Cave. Some guests may dine on the terrace or upstairs with views of sharks. Neat casual dress is required for dining.
Encounters and Itineraries
Jamala offers guided walks through the zoo, exclusive to overnight guests. A morning expedition includes a chance to pat a white rhino. Two-night stays include an 11 am tour, meeting lions, tigers, sun bears, otters, monkeys, hyenas, and koalas. Guests in Giraffe Treehouses meet Hummer and/or Skye at 4 pm. The Wild Encounter Room provides a cheetah encounter. Itineraries include pre-dinner drinks, African-themed dinners, and morning safaris. Luggage collection is at 10:30 am with check-out at 11 am.
Location and access
Located 10 minutes from Canberra CBD and 15 minutes from the airport, Jamala Wildlife Lodge is on Lady Denman Drive, next to Scrivener Dam. Nearby landmarks include Questacon (5 km), Burrunju Aboriginal Gallery (1.5 km), and the National Museum of Australia (4.5 km). Free parking is available for Jamala visitors.
