The Prairie Hotel offers accommodations to suit different needs. Heritage Rooms, located in the original historic hotel, feature a queen-size bed and an updated ensuite bathroom. Outback Rooms offer a king-size bed and a private living area. Flinders Rooms provide panoramic views of the Flinders Ranges, a spacious living area, and an ensuite bathroom with a bath. Options with either one king bed or two queen beds provide flexibility for couples or friends travelling together. Rooms include air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, and complimentary toiletries.
Dining Experience
The on-site Gallery Restaurant offers a seasonal menu featuring local produce, including native animals like emu and kangaroo, alongside non-native options. The Prairie's signature dining includes feral and indigenous produce. Enjoy Kutjera kangaroo tail bao buns with choisin sauce, pickled daikon, and coriander, paired with a beverage and a Parachilna sunset. The Brew Bar & Gallery Restaurant offer a creative menu of feral, native, and regional produce. The hotel offers breakfast daily.
Things to do
Guests can view the gallery of collectible indigenous and contemporary art. The hotel provides access to Brachina Gorge, a 20 km journey through 130 million years of Earth history, where yellow-footed rock wallabies may be spotted. Self-guided walks and drives through the Ikara-Flinders landscape are available. The Nilpena Ediacara Fossil Tour, guided by Ross Fargher, is available. Guests can also visit the Nilpena Visitor Precinct Tour, including an Audio-visual experience in the renovated Blacksmith Shop.
Location and Access
The Prairie Hotel is in Parachilna, in the northern Flinders Ranges of South Australia. It provides views of rugged ranges and sunsets over red plains. The hotel allows access to the dramatic, ancient landscape with local pastoralists of Gum Creek, Alpana, Moolooloo, and Nilpena Stations and the indigenous custodians of the area. Brachina Gorge has rock pools and is a 1.5 km walk from the parking area.

The Prairie Hotel offers food and beverages, accommodation in its Outback Lodge, and guided tours. The Prairie Outback Lodge accommodates 24 guests. The staff aims to provide service beyond expectations for a remote hotel. The hotel also includes the Parachilna Brew Project, South Australia's most remote brewery. A two-night stay delivers service.
