“The Elgin Fairlawn exudes a certain charm, a time capsule amidst Kolkata's vibrant chaos. While the location puts you in the heart of Dharmatala near New Market, be prepared for the city's sounds-a trade-off for the central convenience. I think it's best suited for travelers who appreciate history and prioritize location over absolute tranquility.”

the room allocated to me was very quiet. i appreciated the fridge and kettle within my room. the bed was comfortable. the hotel's recent acquisition of a liquor license allowed me to enjoy a decent selection of drinks.

Charming Hotel with Colonial History
public areas great breakfast
This hotel has many attractive public areas. These uncrowded spaces compensate for room shortcomings (this was a full hotel, too). The breakfast was great. I particularly enjoyed the choices available.
The shower had low water pressure and was located in the bathtub. This made it easy to get water everywhere. There was only cold water at the sink.
Location
9/10
The hotel is in the city center. It is a short distance to a lively market with many things. There are several restaurants in the other direction, within walking distance of about 500-800 meters.
Service
10/10
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Their kindness. They were quick to respond to requests and provided assistance as needed.
