Art Hotel Zanzibar provides deluxe and comfort double rooms. The deluxe rooms are in the main building with views of the tropical garden and pool. The sea is visible, audible, and noticeable from these rooms. Comfort rooms are situated behind the art gallery and massage salon. Every room has been decorated by a native artist. The rooms feature showers/WC, a private sitting area, a safe, and a kettle. They also include air conditioning, a fan, and sockets for electronic devices. Mosquito nets are provided upon request.
Zanzibarish Cuisine
The hotel serves local specialties in the tropical hotel garden. A generous breakfast buffet includes coffee, tea, mandasi, chapati, bread, eggs, and fresh fruits. Light meals are served between 12:30 and 15:00. A 3-course menu with local specialties is available after 18:30. The Serena Hotel, a nearby restaurant, features a fish menu on the terrace weekly. Guests can experience the art of cooking on a coal stove with a local family for 1.5 hours for CHF 30 per person, or for 4 hours (including a market visit) for CHF 32 per person.
Leisure & Entertainment
Art Hotel Zanzibar provides activities such as visits to Jozani National Park to observe red colobus monkeys and diverse plants. Other activities include dolphin safaris, Stone Town market excursions, village cooking, and dhow trips. Guests can engage in fishing with a local fisherman. The Mawimbi Kite School, located in front of the hotel, offers kite surfing courses. Additionally, guests can explore three caves-Kuumbi, Machaga, and Mwanambambe-with cycling and taxi options available.
Location and Transportation
Art Hotel Zanzibar is on the edge of Mfumbwi, a small fishing village on the southeast coast, about one hour from the airport and harbor. The hotel is 60 km from Kisauni. The hotel provides airport and harbor pickup services. The hotel is located across an un-tarred village track from the seashore. Stone Town is accessible for a day trip, with return transportation priced at CHF 50 per person or CHF 75 per person with a guided tour.
Art Shop
Tanzanian art is available for purchase at the Art Hotel Zanzibar and online. Guests can commission custom sculptures by artist Hendrick Lilanga, which take about three weeks for delivery. The hotel displays sculptures Kinyago 1, 2, 3, and 4. Pictures, pens, aquarelles, and old painted paddles are also available for purchase. The hotel features works by artists such as Edward Saidi Tinga Tinga, David Mzuguno, and George Lilanga.
