Eco-Friendly Cottages
Acajou Hotel, an eco-friendly hotel, is located in Grande Riviere, northeast Trinidad, next to a river flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. The six cottages feature Indonesian, Polynesian, and Japanese architecture. Standard cottages include a king-size bed and a sofa convertible to a single bed, plus a fan, mosquito net, and river views. Family cottages also offer a sleeping loft with two single beds. All cottages provide free Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, a digital alarm clock, a safe, and an electric kettle with free coffee and tea. Bathrooms are private and include a shower. Each cottage has an ocean-view balcony with a hammock and wood chairs.
Local and Continental Flavors
The Lime Inn, the hotel's restaurant, features a vaulted wooden ceiling and ocean views. The menu features local and continental influences made with organic products sourced from the garden or local farmers. Guests receive a complimentary continental breakfast, including one item from the a la carte menu.
Turtle and Bird Watching
Acajou Hotel is near Grande Reviere Beach, the world's second-largest nesting site for leatherback turtles. Guests can watch hatchlings surface from the sand to the sea under the supervision of an authorized guide from March to September. The property also provides bird watching tours and is near a bird watch site. A range of activities are such as snorkeling and fishing. Those wanting to see anything else will need a car.

Acajou Hotel is located in Grande Riviere Bay, between the river, the beach, and the mountains. It is a 5-minute walk from the bird watch site and 1 hour's boat ride from Paria Falls. The nearby Jakatan Waterfall is a seven-minute drive followed by a 45-minute guided hike to a 20-foot waterfall. Toco, the island's most northeasterly village, is also one of Trinidad's best surf spots and also the site to visit the Galera Point Lighthouse, a lighthouse built by the British in 1897. The hotel is 90 km from Piarco, Trinidad's air transportation hub; the nearest airport is 41 km from Acajou Hotel.
