The hotel is located at the base of the Miðfjörður fjord, midway between Reykjavík and Akureyri. Blonduos is 60 km away. The Vatnsnes peninsula is close to the hotel, where seals can be spotted. The hotel is in an area known for minimal rainfall/snowfall, which may be good for northern lights viewing. Hotel Laugarbakki provides easy access to popular fishing areas on Arnarvatnsheidi.
