Connor Hotel, Jerome

The Historic Connor Hotel, established in 1899 on Main Street in Jerome, Arizona, offers a variety of rooms. Room 11 features an oversized window onto a lightwell and has oak antiques and rose wallpaper. Room 12 has a flat-panel television, an original tin ceiling, a gas-fired wood stove, and a large whirlpool tub. Each air-conditioned room includes a flat-screen satellite TV, a microwave, a small refrigerator, and a bathroom with a hairdryer. Tea and coffee-making facilities are also included.

The Connor Hotel is 45 km from Ernest A. Love Field. Jerome provides access to northern Arizona. Mingus Mountain, with picnic areas and hiking trails, is located above Jerome. The Verde Valley, with entertainment, museums, and shopping, lies below Jerome. Sycamore Canyon is northwest of the valley and requires an hour's drive on dirt roads. Sedona is 40 minutes north and features red rock scenery, restaurants, and shops. Prescott, the County Seat of Yavapai County, is less than an hour south, and features a Western town atmosphere with Victorian homes and Courthouse Square. Flagstaff is an hour north, and the Grand Canyon is a day trip from Jerome. The hotel is near Raku Gallery (0.3 km), Jerome State Historic Park (1.5 km), Gold King Mine Museum and Ghost Town (2 km), Jerome Artists Cooperative Gallery (1 km), Douglas Mansion (0.3 km), Nellie Bly Kaleidoscopes (0.3 km), and Chief Surgeon's House (0.3 km).

Jerome's centralized location serves as a base for explorations. Tuzigoot National Monument is on the road to old town Cottonwood. Out of Africa Wildlife Park is located between Cottonwood and Camp Verde. The Verde Canyon Railroad offers a four-hour ride through a red-rock landscape. Before 1899, David Connor's hotel burned down twice. After reopening in August 1899, it was a premier lodging establishment. As the mines declined, the Connor Hotel's fortunes decreased. The hotel closed in the 1980s due to safety concerns. The building was renovated to correct safety issues and add modern amenities.
