Activities & Sustainability
Guests can explore Zanzibar's South-East coast by SUP, which is accessible only by SUP. The hotel uses a solar heating system and limits single-use items and plastic to reduce environmental impact. Biodegradable waste is composted for the garden, where fruits and vegetables are grown for the restaurant. The hotel collaborates with Zanrec for waste management and partners with Chako to up-cycle empty glass bottles. Zena's team provides massages using coconut oil mixed with Zanzibari spices; professional therapists from Canada & the USA provide training.
Location and Access
Blue Oyster Hotel is in Jambiani, a traditional fishing village on Zanzibar's South East Coast. Abeid Amani Karume International Airport and the harbor are in Stone Town, approximately 50 kilometers (1.5-hour drive) from the hotel. Jambiani is one of the best places on Zanzibar to get an insight view into traditional village life along the coastline. Stone Town is the location to exchange currency.
