Estancia Cristina Lodge - El Calafate, Estancia Cristina
About the Hotel
Cozy Patagonian Rooms
Estancia Cristina Lodge offers cozy rooms with mountain views, parquet floors, and private bathrooms with showers. The bedrooms are well-heated, carpeted, brightly illuminated, and airy, with window seating and two comfortable chairs. Each of the five bungalows contains four rooms, named after local flora and fauna. Furniture, like bedside cabinets and trunks, is plain and rustic. Bathrooms feature very hot water, a bath and shower, bespoke toiletries, a hairdryer, and a towel heater. All rooms include ironing facilities, heating, a sitting area, and garden furniture. A single room provides a desk, a seating area, a wardrobe, an electric kettle, and views of the scenery.
Dining with Local Flavors
Guests can treat themselves to Patagonian dishes at the on-site restaurant. Breakfast includes a large spread of freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit cocktail, homemade yogurt, doorsteps of bread for toasting, jams made with local berries, medialunas, hams, cheeses, and pre-cooked hot options like eggs and bacon. Lunch and are served in the octagon-shaped main house. Delicious salads, using leaves grown onsite, are available. Typical dishes include pasta with lamb ragout, ribeye steaks, grilled trout, and veggie quiches. A lamb barbecue is available with sides.
Activities in Nature
Guests can enjoy various activities, including fishing and hiking. Packed lunches are available on request. A viewpoint for the sweeping Upsala glacier is a 20-minute drive or a 1.5-hour walk away. The estancia's own boats ferry between Punta Bandera, where buses run to El Calafate town and airport - a three-hour journey.
Location and History
Estancia Cristina enjoys total isolation inside Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park. It sits on a branch of immense Lago Argentina and has views of 9,000-foot Cerro Norte. The lodge is 100 km from Comandante Armando Tola International Airport. A recently refurbished museum features exhibits related to the Masters family and the Patagonian wool trade. The Masters were a pioneering English family who arrived in 1914.
