The Firs Guesthouse is situated in Runswick Bay, 8 miles north of Whitby, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It is 60 km from Durham Tees Valley Airport. Landmarks nearby include the Church of St Oswald & Viking Grave Stones (5 km), Staithes Heritage Centre and the Captain Cook Museum (3.5 km), The War Memorial Clock Tower in Hinderwell (1.5 km), Mulgrave Castle (5.5 km), Staithes Gallery (3.5 km), Port Mulgrave (2 km) and Runswick Bay (0.5 km). The Moorsbus serves railway stations including York, Malton, Thirsk, Northallerton, and Danby. The park and ride car park has 450 free parking spaces, with Services P1 (via West Cliff and St Hilda's Terrace to Whitby Bus Station every 15 minutes) and P2 (direct to Whitby Bus Station every 30 minutes) operating from Whitby Bus Station to the car park.

The Firs Guesthouse provides a level tarmac parking area with marked spaces for 10 vehicles, ramp access into the building, and keys to the side door for all guests upon check-in. The front main entrance has double doors open when reception is manned (8:30 AM-2:00 PM, 4:00 PM-9:00 PM). Gents and Ladies toilets are located to the side of reception on the ground floor. Mobility scooters are available for hire from the local business center in Staithes. Eco-friendly dog waste bins and biodegradable waste bags are provided, along with a doggie shower.
