The Driftwood Resort, Vero Beach
About the Hotel
Waldo Sexton's Vision
The Driftwood Resort, conceived by Waldo Sexton in the 1920s, features a rustic 'beachcomber' design. Sexton, also the founder of McKee's Jungle Attractions, constructed the inn from cypress logs and pecky-cypress paneling sourced from Blue Cypress Lake, 26 miles away. During construction in the 1930s, Sexton directed crews on the beach without formal plans.
